STZ Welding Technology: Precise and repeatable laser welding for complex contours

STZ Schweißtechnik GmbH, part of the STZ Group, operates its welding technology centre in Willich near Düsseldorf, processing individual parts, prototypes, and small batches for demanding industries. Using 5-axis CNC-controlled laser welding systems and flexibly adaptable ASKIAS technology, STZ combines repeatable accuracy with versatile processing capabilities.
5-axis CNC machining for complex contours with repeatable high precision.
Modernisation of a proven existing system by switching from a YAG to an AUXXOS fibre laser.
Individual parts and small batches using laser and TIG welding processes for customers in tool and mould making, sensor and measurement technology, aerospace, automotive, and other sectors.

Complex tasks. Flexible technology. Repeatable quality.

From prototypes to repair welding: STZ must process a variety of workpieces precisely and be able to switch between tasks quickly. CNC-controlled welding sequences, pinpoint energy input, and the robust design of ASKIAS systems provide the ideal foundation for this.

Die Herausforderung

Individual parts, prototypes, and small batches present STZ with ever-changing welding tasks. Complex contours must be processed with repeatable precision, and material distortion must be kept to a minimum. At the same time, rapid adjustments for different workpieces and users are required.

Unsere Lösung

5-axis CNC-controlled welding systems enable the processing of complex contours. A proven existing system was retrofitted from a YAG to an AUXXOS fibre laser. The ASKIAS systems can be adapted quickly and remain stable even when the axes are fully extended.

Das Ergebnis

STZ welds complex contours with repeatable high precision and minimal material distortion. Flexible retooling supports changing orders. A proven existing system remains in use following the switch to fibre laser, continuing to impress with its ease of operation and control.

Frequently asked questions

What welding tasks does STZ undertake?

STZ processes individual parts and small batches using laser and TIG welding. The focus is on joining and build-up welding. In addition, STZ offers repair welding and the processing of prototypes. Customers come from sectors including tool and mould making, sensor and measurement technology, the energy industry, aerospace, and the automotive and electromobility sectors.

Why does STZ rely on laser welding for precision applications?

The laser delivers energy to the processing point with pinpoint accuracy. This means the workpiece is only heated locally, which keeps material distortion to a minimum. STZ uses these properties for welding tasks with high accuracy requirements.

What is the advantage of 5-axis CNC machining?

With 5-axis CNC-controlled welding systems, STZ can process complex contours with repeatable high precision. Programmed sequences are particularly useful for tasks where the weld path must be reliably reproduced.

Why was an existing system retrofitted with a fibre laser?

STZ replaced the original YAG laser with an AUXXOS fibre laser, which they report is significantly more efficient. The proven system remained in use, as the team continues to be impressed by its ease of operation and control.

Who is behind STZ Schweißtechnik?

Edis Zahirovic and Goran Gavric have been friends since their early school days and have over 20 years of experience in welding technology. At the time of filming, they had been working in laser welding for almost ten years. They have been operating the Schweißtechnik-Zentrum in Willich together since 2019.

"They are very flexible and can be quickly adapted to different workpieces and users. Despite this, everything remains very stable even when the axes are fully extended."
